Cod & Lobster

Restaurant | Saltburn-by-the-Sea | Angleterre | Royaume Uni

Lovely restaurant overlooking the sea. Decor a little outdated but who cares when the food is so good. Had the seafood chowder starter which was large enough for a lunch main and tried a battered oyster, served in a shell on a salad base it was so scrumptious I ordered a second one and insisted my friend tried one too. Staff were friendly and highly attentive. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Very disappointed with our meal that we had been looking forward to. Lovely situated pub but the inside resembles a truckers cafe. Ordered the signature Cod and Lobster my partner the fish and chips. The lobster was tiny and overcooked so chewy, the cod was ok but not seasoned, the whole dish very bland. The fish and chips was terrible. A tiny portion of fish dipped several times in batter to increase the size then fried within an inch of its life. The chips that were obviously frozen were pale and cold. We complained to the manager that the fish was just batter with no fish. He could see that the dish had hardly been eaten. He said he would pass it on to the chef and would knock off the price of 2 drinks. The experience ruined our night that we had been looking forward to. Would not eat there again. Nice place to sit outside for a drink but they seriously need to employ a better chef.

What a fantastic place. Tucked into the bottom of Staithes near the harbour. We parked at the top of the hill and walked down. It is quite a popular place and filled up quite quickly soon after we got there. Nice welcome and a great menu… choices for all tastes. We had fish tacos and chowder for lunch. Portion size great and both dishes absolutely delicious. The chowder was packed with fish and shell fish. Will definitely come here again… want to have the lobster! A well stocked bar too and great friendly service.

My wife and I took a chance on a beautiful winter's day and called in for lunch on visit to Staithes. Pub was alive with people and found one of last tables, overlooking harbour. Lots of people, but music level was low 😇. Only slight disturbance was one yapping dog...(hence 4 stars for atmosphere) but thankfully eventually calmed down. Service was run by a landlady who had her finger on the pulse, and customer service top notch...well done to her!! Especially that the team of young people serving and cooking etc well and truly doing their job. Big pat on the back to them too! Great to see local people employing local young people and doing it with SUCH success. Big pluses for that. We both had fish menu and couldn't say enough about quality, speed of service, and value for money. Major ticks all round. A wonderful surprise to enjoy this chance encounter and we tried to express this in being generous with a tip. Sadly especially since the pandemic this custom in UK seems to have died out. Shame on us all, I say..and I hope this review will help us all to do better. Having worked in a Service Industry all my life, I don't think its possible to show too much appreciation to those who serve. And absolute tonic to see young people so well motivated in their work. I hope that they will read this review even if no-one else does! Thank you all very much for your hospitality. Well done all round.

Absolutely fantastic little pub food was perfection, if your celiac they can cater for you as well, the Guinness is amazing too. Happy accidental find, but beware it gets busy fast, but when you eat there you'll find out why.

Cod and Lobster was an amazing place to eat. We arrived not knowing what to expect from Staithes; but we were hungry, so we wanted something to eat before we explored. Our family of two adults and a child ate very well here indeed - with three marvellously cooked meals served by friendly staff in a great venue in the heart of the village, and indeed the spirit of the village. The menu has loads of choice, with specials too! Despite being busy and meals cooked fresh to order, the food came in good time. Definitely recommended!

Arrived at 12 on a cold and windy February Friday. Lovely welcome from the member of staff, who was working alone until extra wait staff arrived later. Pub was warm with a lovely fire going, lots of people already there having tea and coffee. We ordered fish & chips and a steak and ale pie. Lots of veg, chips included and both were delicious and filling. 2 pints of blonde and 2 pots of tea and the bill was under £40. Very dog friendly and we will be regular visitors here.

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. We visited to celebrate my dad’s 70th birthday, and everything about the evening felt worthy of the occasion. The food was fabulous, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were wonderfully attentive. The selection of beer and wine was fantastic, but what truly stood out was the gin and whisky selection—easily the best on this side of the Scottish border. My review might not have been as positive a few years ago, but it’s clear that real effort has gone into elevating this charming little eatery. The improvements are undeniable, making it a standout spot. Plus, it’s dog-friendly, which adds another star to this already stellar experience!

Astonishingly full on Saturday night at 5.45 in Feb but we were allowed to have a table that was reserved from 7pm. Staff were good. We enjoyed our meals. Sausage and mash and monkfish.

Fantastic location with spectacular sea views. It has a great atmosphere and feels quaint and cosy! The staff are friendly and the menu has an abundance of options, catering to all, vegetarians, pescaterians and meat lovers! As it is set in one of the the most beautiful fishing villages, we opted for fish dishes. The fish was fresh and lovely, however somehow the food was a bit disappointing. My partner ordered the most expensive thing on the menu the cod and lobster special, the portion was a little bit too small as he was still hungry after and the vegetables on my pan fried monkfish arrived cold. Cannot fault the taste of the food though...

We lucked out last week with a sunny day in January, warm enough to eat outside with a view of the beach, sea and a tictok famous collie dog. Beautiful food, wonderful service, stunning views.

Inedible steak pie. The meat was tough and pie had no flavour or gravy. A side of bisto gravy was given. We advised staff the meat was inedible and nothing was done. Avoid at all costs. My partners scampi was alright.

Not worth the money in my experience. Booked with my family. When we arrived, we stood for a while unnoticed. Someone got the waitress’s attention and she proceeded to finish her conversations before bothering to seat us. Family found their meals ok. I ordered the monkfish and it didn’t look great when it came out. It was dry and overcooked and the mash was lumpy throughout. I had to just stop eating it at a point because it was dreadful, especially for £20. The waitress was cold towards us from the beginning, making me feel like it’s not worth complaining. I figured either herself or the kitchen would notice their customer has left the majority of their food and question it but obviously not. Didn’t want to come across as someone only looking to get money off the bill so just took it as a loss but won’t be returning - service and food well below expectation.
